Configuring a Door Action for Check-In/Check-out

You can configure a Door/Reader so that it can be used to provide check-in and check-out for Visitors.

In C•CURE 9000, a Reader must be associated with a Door on a controller, but that Door need not be a physical Door. The Door can be a Door object associated with a reader that is used exclusively for Check-in/Check-out.

You could setup a reader for Check-in or Check-out as part of a kiosk, with a deposit slot for returned badges. You would associate this reader with a Door object on a controller, and define the Check-in or Check-out Actions as part of that Door's configuration.

When you assign a reader to a door, you define whether the reader is used for the in or out direction; This allows you to split check in and check out operations between in and out directions at the door.

When a Visitor swipes an access card at the reader and receives a response, an Event is triggered by the Door object that sets the Visitor as checked-in for the visit. The hosts of a Visit are automatically notified by email that the Visitor has checked in for the Visit. The notification email also includes the portrait thumbnails from any Visitor personnel records that have a profile image. For more information on adding images to personnel records, refer to the C•CURE 9000 Personnel Configuration Guide. The Visitor must have a registered ongoing visit to make the check-in operation possible. This ongoing visit must have a start time in the past and the end time of the visit in the future. When the visit is complete, the Visitor swipes their access card again, and a second Event set the Visitor as Checked-out for the visit.

Example:

Visitors enter the facility and receive a temporary access card at the security desk. To check in for their visit, each Visitor swipes their card at a Check-in reader at the security desk. When their access card receives a response from the reader, they are automatically checked-in for the visit.

When their Visit is complete, the Visitor again swipes their card at a Check-out reader, and upon receiving an admit response from the reader, they are checked out of the visit, and they can return their temporary access card at the security desk and leave.

This configuration uses a Visitor Management Action on a Door, setup on the Door Special Actions tab to provide automatic check-in and check-out for Visitors. The system must be licensed for Visitor Management for this tab to be present on iSTAR or apC Doors.

C•CURE 9000 uses the Journal Messages generated when a card is swiped at a Door/Reader that is configured for the Check-in/Check-out actions to determine the Check-in and Check-out for that access card.

Reader direction (In, Out, In and Out) is supported for these configurations. The selection for Reader Direction should align with the Inbound reader and Outbound reader selection for the door.

Example:

The Door has an Inbound Reader and an Outbound Reader. The Inbound Reader is used for Check-in, while the Outbound Reader is used for Check-out. Therefore, the Visitor Management Action for Check-in should be configured with Direction set to In, and the Visitor Management Action for Check-out should be configured with Direction set to Out.

Check-in, Check-out and Check-out and Return Badge actions are supported.

The Check-in/Check-out actions can be configured to be active during specific system Schedules.
